Improper manual handling of goods can easily cause injury if not done properly – back and neck injury is common as well as trap injuries especially with goods which are too heavy to properly lift.

Manual handling is simply the moving of items. Whether you’re lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing or pulling, you should always be aware of the risks. It’s one of the most common causes of injury at work, and causes over a third of all workplace injuries, including work related Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) such as upper and lower limb pain, and joint and repetitive strain injuries.

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations place a duty on every employer to reduce the potential injury from manual handling operations.
